An article published last week by the co-founder and CEO of LeanIn.Org highlights some grim statistics about women in the workplaceโ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฒ๐ณ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐, ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฒ๐น๐ฑ ๐ถ๐ ๐๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฟ ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ผ๐บ ๐น๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐น.
For every 100 men promoted to manager in 2024, only 81 women received the same opportunity. So why are they still being passed over for advancement? There are only two possibilities:
๐ Either men are inherently more talented than women (which we ๐ฌ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ธ is not true),
๐ Or ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐๐ฒ๐บ ๐ถ๐ ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐ฎ ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฒ ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐.
The problem isnโt capabilityโ๐ถ๐โ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ฐ๐๐น๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ป๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ผ๐, ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฐ๐๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ผ๐ณ ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ. Women have to work harder to be seen as leaders, and when they assert themselves, theyโre often penalized for behavior thatโs seen as ๐ข๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด in men but ๐ข๐จ๐จ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ท๐ฆ in women.
