Prioritizing Everyone Else? Don’t Forget Yourself
As scientist mothers, we’re experts at taking care of everyone around us—mentoring trainees, supporting colleagues, running the lab, managing the household, and making sure our kids have everything they need. But what about us?
I’m notorious for putting off my own medical appointments. Case in point: that MRI I had a few weeks ago? It was for a knee injury… from October. I told myself I could just "walk it off" (spoiler: I couldn’t). With mountains of work and the constant race to keep up, even making time for a doctor’s visit can feel indulgent—like something that can just wait.
But it shouldn’t. We matter!!!
So today, I got it together—rocking my medical gown (loving this color for spring! 🌺) at my mammogram appointment. A not-so-gentle nudge (or squish 🫠) that my health matters too.
So here’s your friendly reminder: Book that overdue check-up. Schedule that screening. Prioritize yourself the way you do everyone else.
The work will still be there tomorrow. But your well-being? That’s non-negotiable. 🩷
